What Is the Chevening Scholarship?

The Chevening Scholarship is the UK government’s flagship international scholarship programme. It is funded by the FCDO along with a network of partner organisations, and it has run since 1983. Since then, it has supported nearly 60,000 professionals from around the world to study in the UK.

The programme was created to build long-term relationships between the UK and future leaders in other countries. Can I apply for Chevening if I already have a master's degree?

 Yes. Having a previous master’s degree does not stop you from applying for a Chevening-funded second master’s degree in the UK, as long as you meet all the other eligibility criteria.

Chevening itself does not set a fixed English test requirement for the scholarship application. However, the UK university and course you apply to may require IELTS or another accepted test as part of their own admission process.

You must apply to three different and eligible UK university courses through your Chevening application, and you need an unconditional offer from at least one of them by the stated deadline.

No. Chevening has no upper age limit and is designed for professionals with leadership potential, not fresh graduates. What matters most is your work experience, leadership record, and clear plan for the future.

If you are selected but cannot secure an unconditional offer from at least one of your three chosen courses by the deadline, you will not be able to take up the award for that cycle.

The scholarship funding is intended for the scholar only. Costs for a spouse, partner, or children accompanying you are not covered, and Chevening does not provide separate allowances for dependants.
